David A. Dzewaltowski, Endowed Community Chair and Professor of Public Health at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Buffett Early Childhood Institute, is an accomplished behavioral scientist, public health educator, and higher education administrator. His work has focused on identifying the drivers of human-environment systems and interventions promoting physical activity, healthful eating, and other health behaviors across in childcare settings, after-school programs, elementary and middle schools, youth sport and diverse youth club organizations. He was also a founding member of the RE-AIM Framework workgroup, whose goal has been to encourage program planners, evaluators, readers of journal articles, funders, and policy-makers to pay more attention to essential program elements that can improve the sustainable adoption and implementation of effective, evidence-based health promotion programs.
Dr. Dzewaltowski has been successful administrator leading organizational improvement in higher education as a department head and institute director for over 20 years. Currently, he is focused on research and development efforts targeting community and organization systems change to improve population health and equity. His projects have been funded by several health foundations, the National Institutes of Health and the United States Department of Agriculture and resulted in over 100 scholarly papers and book chapters, and over 5,000 citations in the academic literature. He has been on the editorial boards of several scientific journals, such as Health Psychology, Journal of Sport, Exercise and Performance Psychology, Exercise and Sport Science Reviews and contributed to numerous advisory and review panels in Kansas, Nebraska and nationally and internationally with the U.S. National Institutes of Health, United Kingdom Medical Research Council, , Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Sciences, USDA, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology.
